Raymond Lawrie supports 'Phones 4 Africa'

Dundee Liberal Democrats' local party Convener Raymond Lawrie has today (Saturday 21st October) given his backing to a new parliamentary campaign to provide mobile phones for Africa.

Earlier this week, the Westminster Parliament launched" Phones 4 Africa", a campaign aiming to send old, unwanted mobile phones to be reconditioned and reused in African nations.

Willie Rennie MP, Liberal Democrat MP for Dunfermline and West Fife, said, "Every hour, 1712 mobile phones are upgraded in the UK alone after around 18 months of use, despite having a lifespan of around 10 years. If each mobile phone user in the UK were to throw away their handsets we'd be land filling around £650,000 of silver each year."

Herein Dundee, Raymond added, "'Phones 4 Africa' is an excellent parliamentary initiative and I certainly hope it gets great support."
