Dundee Liberal Democrats are today (Tuesday 24th October) launching their Green Tax Switch campaign. This is aimed at promoting the party's proposals for switching to green taxes, while reducing income tax for many constituents at the same time.

Dundee City Council's Liberal Democrat Vice Convener of Environmental Services and Sustainability, Cllr Helen Dick said, "Liberal Democrats want to fundamentally change the way Britain is taxed.

"The environment has always been at the heart of our party's concerns and we strongly believe there is a real need to switch to green taxes to switch off climate chaos. The recent pre-manifesto from the Scottish Liberal Democrats - "Bright Future" - gave emphasis to the "Green Switch.

"Governments currently tax good things, like work. Liberal Democrats say there's a need to switch to taxing bad things instead - like pollution and carbon emissions. Green taxes would change our behaviour and safeguard our planet for future generations.

"This is about using taxes in a new way to change behaviour, not to raise money for the government. Liberal Democrats will cut income tax by 2%, that's £1,000 a year for the average family. Taxes would then be switched onto activities which harm the environment."
