Sir Menzies Campbell calls for Salmond to resign Westminster seat

Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Friday 16th February) backed calls by Liberal Democrat Leader Sir Menzies Campbell MP for Scottish Nationalist Leader Alex Salmond to make up his mind which constituents he wishes to serve and which parliament he wants to be in.

Speaking at the Scottish LibDem Conference in Aviemore, Sir Menzies said, ""The nationalist leader claims that Scotland's future is his highest priority. But this is the same man who uses the Scottish electorate as a vehicle for his personal ambition. From Scotland to Westminster, from Westminster to Scotland, and then back again.

"He is like the Grand Old Duke of York of Scottish politics. When he was up he was up. And when he was down he was down. But most of the time he is half way up. Which is neither up nor down.

"Alex Salmond needs to make up his mind this time and resign immediately from his Westminster seat."

Locally, here in Dundee, LibDem spokesperson Murray Dick said, "Alex Salmond abandoned the Scottish Parliament in favour of Westminster. Now he claims he wants back into the Scottish Parliament but appears to want to hang on to his seat in the Westminster Parliament too. Does he seriously think the public will be fooled?"
