Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Monday 2nd April) welcomed news that Scottish LibDem leader, Nicol Stephen MSP, has kick-started the first full week of campaigning in the Scottish Parliament elections.

Nicol and Sir Menzies Campbell launched the party's campaign bus yesterday. Powered by bio-fuel, the bus will cover 10 000 miles as Nicol takes the party's campaign across Scotland.

The tour began this morning in Dunfermline, scene of the spectacular Lib Dem by-election victory, where Nicol launched plans to increase sentences for knife crime, as part of a wider programme to tackle violent crime.

Sir Menzies Campbell said, "In Scotland the Liberal Democrats have made a real and positive difference to the lives of the Scottish people. Students and parents do not need to worry about debt caused by tuition fees. Older people do not have to worry about how they will pay for their personal care. But there is still much to do.

"Under Nicol Stephen, the Scottish LibDems are better placed than ever before. At the last General Election we came second, gaining seats from Labour, beating the SNP and the Tories. Just over a year ago we won a stunning by-election in Dunfermline. Our priorities are the priorities of the Scottish people."

Locally, here in Dundee, Liberal Democrat spokesperson Murray Dick said, "We are heartened by Nicol's positive start to the campaign. He appeared by far the most measured and thoughtful of the party leaders in yesterday's TV debate. It shows the Scottish Liberal Democrats have much to offer the people of Scotland."
