Dundee LibDems support increasing local democracy for health boards

Dundee LibDems have today (Sunday 24th February) backed the call for democratically elected local councillors to have an enhanced role in relation to health services in their area.

Liberal Democrat Public Health spokesperson, Jamie Stone MSP, said, "...we would prefer to see the role of democratically elected local councillors to be enhanced in relation to health services in their area.

"We believe that this would increase accountability, address existing democratic deficits and avoid unnecessary structural upheaval that is associated with direct elections to Health Boards."

Locally, here in Dundee, LibDem council group leader, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, said, "An enhanced role for elected councillors will ensure improved democracy for health boards without a new layer of bureaucracy. This is the best way forward to provide the best health services across Scotland."
